Past Tense

Original concept written after helping a young boy one night, who was prepared to sleep on the streets if he didn’t bring home food and/or money for his family.

The tale is told from the perspective of Feluké (known as Denver D at the time) who was so moved by seeing the young child that he shared his own story of living on the streets. The song tries to capture not just the suffering but also the pride and motivation that drive these children, while proclaiming that they can indeed become that person now in front of you.

(Music and some lyrics by Denver A. Smith)
