Finally got caught

Visualization of the coronavirus causing COVID-19

That’s right! I got caught y’all! That darned Covid-19 finally noticed I had been safe for the nearly 3 years of this global pandemic.

So a week before Christmas, shortly after my last post, I woke up SICK!

To be honest, I didn’t even realise at first that I was sick. I thought I’d just danced way too much at the company Christmas party the previous night. It is definitely possible for me to dance so much that my body makes me pay for it the next day, lol.

But the pains did not diminish, the headache suggested something else and the fatigue that kept me in bed all day confirmed that this was more than just being “over-danced.”

I tested positive 2 days later (when I finally felt energetic enough to get out of the bed and make some arrangements).

I had no fever, but the cough… oh man! 🤦🏽‍♀️ I’m generally prone to bronchial issues which is why I had dreaded catching Covid-19 from the beginning, and why I had been fairly careful (until recently).

I basically sounded like I was hacking up my lungs. I was out of breath walking to the kitchen. And anything that made me laugh was like it was trying to kill me there and then.

A little over a week later I was testing negative but still coughing badly, so I remained masked up and mostly away from people.

Having stayed with my parents for Christmas (masked and mostly isolated), I was back home for the New Year. But 2023 got off to a slow start for me.

I was still getting winded walking up and down stairs. When I eventually tried to go latin dancing, I had to sit and catch my breath for about 15 minutes after dancing to one song. and swimming was out of the question.

But I started some strength workouts which have been helping me stay in shape. I resumed weekly walking with a friend and can see clear improvement happening there.

As we approach the end of March, I am mostly fully recovered (as far as I can tell). My breathing is getting back to normal. I’ve resumed most of my usual activities, with the exception of swimming because it has still been pretty cold in the mornings.

This was an unplanned setback in my life but I am glad I have not seen worse effects, during and after. Having known several people who died after getting Covid in the last couple years, I do not take this lightly.

I am going to try returning to my writing practice now, so stay tuned for more updates soon!
