Fit And Fab Forty

Those who follow me on Twitter may remember one of my hashtags #FitAndFabForty. It started in the run up to my turning 40:

The grand transformation by my 40th birthday didn’t quite happen… and I continued to stop and start periodically post-40

Mid-2019, life threw me for a loop with a badly broken leg (that story will come, I promise, lol) and complications. By time I recovered, it was the middle of the pandemic. Like many people, the weight piled on, which was compounded by the inactivity of injury.

From late 2020 through early 2021, I made one all-out effort with the support of a local gym, working out 5 days a week and an uber-restrictive diet. No surprise that I lost 30lbs over 5 months. Also no surprise that I put it all back on over the rest of 2021 into 2022.

This year, I hit my turning point. Recognising that I might die early if I didn’t change my lifestyle, I finally made some updates. Through the Wildfit programme, I made some sustainable changes to the way I eat. Starting with the mindset work to change my relationship to food, I also added lots more healthy foods and managed to curb a lot of my emotional eating (where much of the crap eating comes from).

Over 3 months, I lost 35lbs, without exercise! Even more important, I have managed to keep it off since then (another 3 months). This is the first time that food changes have felt truly sustainable since I did the mindset work that necessary. I may write more about this in the future.

During the programme, I saw other benefits included increased energy, improved sleep, greater mental clarity, all of which continue. I have since started swimming again, since I actually have the energy to get out of bed. I no longer use the #FitAndFabForty hashtag, because this is less about a target and more about a way of life. But I am definitely feeling like my fittest and fabbest 40s self right now!
